The ingredients needed to make Kongunad chicken curry:
  1. Get 1 kg Chicken with bones -
  2. Make ready 1 Onion - (finely chopped)
  3. Take 2 Tomato - (medium sized)
  4. Take 2 tsp Ginger garlic paste -
  5. Prepare 1 spring Curry leaves -
  6. Take 1 tbsp Coriander leaves- chopped
  7. Take 1 1/2 tsp Salt -
  8. Get 1 tsp Turmeric powder -
  9. Make ready 3 tbsp Oil -
  10. Get To saute and grind:
  11. Take 6 Shallot onions-
  12. Make ready 6 Red chilli -
  13. Make ready 1 tsp Black pepper -
  14. Take 1/2 tsp Poppy seeds -
  15. Take 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds -
  16. Get 1 tbsp Coconut - (grated)
  17. Make ready 2 tsp Coriander powder -
  18. Take For tempering:
  19. Get Cinnamon - 1" piece
  20. Make ready 1/2 tsp Fennel seeds -
  21. Make ready Cloves 3-4
  22. Make ready 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds -

This is a spicy chicken dish which taste fantastic. Heat oil in a pan, add the shallots, curry leaves, bit of salt and sauté till transparent. Add in chopped tomatoes, turmeric and sauté till the tomatoes are nicely cooked. When the tomatoes are cooked, add in the ground masala paste with chicken pieces.

Instructions to make Kongunad chicken curry:
  1. Cut and clean the chicken to bite sized pieces and add 1 tsp ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp salt and mix well.
  2. Meanwhile in a teaspoon oil, saute the given ingredients under saute and grind except coriander powder for a couple of minutes and put off the heat. Now add coriander powder and mix well. Let it cool down and grind to a fine paste.
  3. Heat a pan with oil and do the tempering. Saute onion, curry leaves and add the remaining Ginger garlic paste and fry for a minute.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook till mushy.
  5. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 5 mins in medium flame by stirring in between.
  6. Add the ground paste and mix well. Add salt and 2 cups of water. Cook covered in medium flame.
  7. Finally garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice, chapathi, idly, dosa etc.,

Add in chopped tomatoes, turmeric and sauté till the tomatoes are nicely cooked. When the tomatoes are cooked, add in the ground masala paste with chicken pieces. Kongunad Chicken Fry is a finger licking good recipe of a chicken appetizer made South Indian style flavoured with whole spices and curry leaves. Kongunad comprises of regions of Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Pallipalayam, Kumarapalayam, Karur, Gobi, and Namakkal. And they are known for their cuisine.
